MRI Brain Scan

Just two weeks ago i did an MRI brain scan at Sime Darby medical centre, it was recommended by the doctor as I always always had very severe headache. Btw, my doctor is Dr Sabri and may Allah bless him because he is so nice and always smiling, helpful and very fatherly.

Ok so in case you are wondering, MRI brain scan is a test to get image of the brain and the surrounding nerve by using a very powerful magnets or waves, and the whole body will be pushed into the machine that looks like a tunnel of donut and it is not funny. Some say it's scary! like being pushed into a coffin or something.

My appointment was at 9 am and i was reminded to come early for registration. Seriously, i was terrified to do this test as not much of good comments i found via google. Most of the people mention how scary the process was, and even my friend's bro ask them to get him out when he did last time.

I was asked to remove any metal objects in my body, fill up a questionaire and changed to the hospital attire. So i was nervous, but mentally prepared for the worst and funny thing was I went to the toilet for 4 times while waiting for my turn.

And then they called my name, i feel like canceling the test but it was too late:-[ first thing i notice at the room was they have a big white screen that display a panaromic image with butterflies and flowers, with a soothing music as the background just to make the patient relax. The radiotherapist brief me about the whole process. I was given an ear plug and a headphone and he asked me to remain closing my eyes. But the stubborn in me made me asked for an eye mask before i was asked to lay down and being pushed into the machine.

It took about 20 minutes and throughout the process i could hear a very loud sound of the machine, and also the soothing music from the headphone. It was a boring process, try to sleep but i cant. Although it was a bit uncomfy but it was NOT a scary process at all. Trust me, and please ask for an eye mask. It did helps a lot!

Report was ready in an-hour and we went for makan at the cafe to kill the time.

*Btw, in case you are wondering the cost of MRI scan at SDMC is RM1.2K. (excluding consultation with preferred Dr.) I'm just lucky to have the company paid for it.
